Trots and Turkeys and Thanks

What up, my people?!!

Greetings from the Windy City! I hope you all had a nice and relaxing Thanksgiving weekend.  I sure did. I think I slept 10+ hours each night.

Mom Heis snapped this while I slumbered. I am a pretty sleeper.

My parents and I jump started our Thanksgiving day by participating in the Detroit Turkey Trot.

Pretty sunrise over Motown

And I read some where that it is the largest foot face on Thanksgiving.  And I believe it man.  It was crowded.

Corral shot. Packed to the MAXX.

I didn’t mind at all.  The trot had a 10K and 5K option and I didn’t know which one I was going to run (even though I had signed up for the 10K).  They share the course for the first 2 miles or so, I was I was going to make the call once I started going.  I hadn’t run more than 1 mile since the Chicago Marathon back in October (I know, I am lazy). Surprisingly, I felt ok , so I decided to run the 10K.  And when I say “run”, I mean “jogged while texting, tweeting and taking pictures.”

Here is an action shot of me passing the man in a full turkey suit and a santa hat

And here is the vodka smelling college kid who ran the 10K in boat shoes. He still makes me happy. Partied like a boss on Wednesday night, then ran like a boss on Thursday morning.

SO. MANY. HUMANS.

The race course also shared part of the Thanksgiving parade route and at one point we had to walk for 2 min or so because there was a parade float on the course.  I welcomed the walk.   The only walking part I wasn’t happy about was at the end of the race.  There was some road construction in the finish chute, so we had to walk the last .2 because it was jam packed full of runners.  It took nearly 5 minutes to walk .2!

Hopefully this is the last time I ever walk across a finish line!

Again, I wasn’t out there to race, so I didn’t mind too much.  I was happy to be able to run 6.2 miles without dying.  I heard people talking around me – the race had never been like that before, so I look forward to soaring across the finish line next year (when the construction is finished)!  Speaking of soaring, I checked my official time yesterday (I ran without my garmin) and it was 1:14. Hahhaha I AM A SPEED DEMON! And I also got a medal… because I won the couch potato division.

That’s my medal, in case you could not tell.

Norman the Dog walked the 5K with my parents.  He won the mixed breed division.

Here he is… TEARING UP THE COURSE.

And here is a random pic of the river front in Detroit. It was such a beautiful morning in the Motor City!

Beauts!

After the race I took a long nap, because that’s what couch potatoes do.  Then I minimally helped with the preparation of the T-giving meal.

Norms wanted to help prepare food too!

It was only my parents and I… my sister and brother came later in the weekend.

Feasting like kings.

Once the rest of the crew arrived,  all I did was take pics of baby Elliot, because I am creep like that.

Someone loves his grandma!

Check out the wings they gave him on the plane. He was prob the cutest baby in the friendly skies that day.

Bathing like a royalty.

I literally took no pictures of anyone else in my family. Well, that’s not true, if you count Norman as a family member.

My snuggle buddy just curled up in bed with me. He doesn’t leave my side when I’m home!

In his natural habitat, looking majestic, like an eagle.  His brown and white fur is much like the coloring of a juvenile bald eagle.

Doggie coat.

The mothership and I did a lil Friday shopping, but not at the mall, just in the “downtown” of their town.  It snowed.  It was cold.

It was snowing, but it was coming down so fast that you can’t even see it in this pic!

But it was worth dealing with the weather because I got to visit the new Lululemon on it’s opening day! And of course I bought some new gear.  Sorry ’bout it.

When I arrived home to the Land of Lincoln on Sunday, I walked into my apartment  find that my fat cat had eaten ALL his food.  I gave him wayyyyy more than he needed and my friend, Molly, even refilled his bowl on Friday!  He also got out all his toys.  Such a menace.

“What are you going to do about it, Lizard?” -Matthew Cat

And because he missed me so much, he let me carry him all around the apt.  I caught a glimpse of us at one point.  HE IS HUGE.

If I ever do online dating, I will use this as my profile pic.

Oh and here is an irrelevant Elliot pic, but it’s so cute, so I have to include in this post.

I dare you find a cuter child. I DOUBLE DOG DARE YOU.

And that’s all I have so say. But I need/want to hear about everyone’s turkey trots!  Which trot did you run and how was it?
