I guess I will start blogging again about my weekly training for the Illinois Marathon. I know you really care, plus, it keeps me from skipping runs. Everybody wins!
Well… except this week. I skipped a lot of runs. Yeah, I’m pretty dedicated. Here’s the quick run down:
Monday: 3 mile-ish hike
Tuesday: 1 hour Physical Therapy session (after 4 hour plane ride. woof.)
Wednesday: Nada (PT said take a few days off and who am I to argue?)
Thursday: More resting
Friday: 1 hour PT sesh
Saturday: 9 miles
Sunday: More resting
So clearly this wasn’t the strongest week as far as training is concerned. I was pretty sore after the half last Sunday… which is not surprising considering I didn’t train… so I gladly obliged when the PT told me rest. Also, I’m also sore after PT visits. Sad, I know.
Let’s get to the 9miler this weekend. It was a great run… AND IT WAS ON A TREADMILL. I didn’t have much of a choice. My group run was canceled due to weather.
It’s the longest run I’ve ever done on the ‘mill. I don’t usually watch TV while running. Or if I do watch, I’m still listening to my iPod. This weekend I listened to the actual TV. I was even watching horrible television.

Yes, that is Will Ferrell in Night at the Roxbury. It’s a horrible movie. (also I ran on 1% incline, I noticed it was 0.5% after I took this sweet pic. Don’t hate.)
I also am not ashamed to admit that I actually laughed out loud while running. I’m easily amused and Will Ferrell is a bag’o'laughs. But I think not listening to the music helped. When I’m on the treadmill I find myself getting caught up into each song and how much distance I’ve covered during each song (which is never more than like 800 meters because I’m so slow). With the TV, the miles and minutes were just ticking away. I still am in shock that this treadmill run was one of the best runs I’ve had in a while. However, I will admit that I was soooo soreeeee Saturday night… after I came down from my runner’s high (nerd alert).
I’m looking forward to week 5. 10 miles is the scheduled long run this weekend. Hopefully the weather corporates, it appears to be outta control this week. 60 on Tues? SIXTEEN ON FRIDAY? WHY CHICAGO, WHY?!
So I am blaming today’s freezing rain on my lack of working out. Da Honda isn’t really made for winter driving (which is surprising, I know.) and heaven forbid I take the bus on a weekend day. In lieu of working out, I crocked some chicken (and I burnt it – who burns things in the crock pot?!), rearranged my living room and filed my taxes. I feel like a champion!
Lastly – Is anyone else running the IL Marathon????

You did so great this week, especially since you ran a half last week! I’ve burned way too many things in the crock pot, it is easy to do especially when your stuff cooks faster than expected.
i hope to. i have run the full for a couple of years, but this year, because i haven’t been well, i might try and pull off just the half. nine miles on the treadmill…. i know the weather sucks… but you must have a mental will of STEEL!!
You are tough to survive 9 miles on a treadmill. I once ran 6 at the gym and started going nuts and I almost fell off the dang thing once.
ugh treadmill can be so boring
longest i did was 12 one time and i thought i was going to lose my mind!
I’m not running the Illinois Marathon but I’ll probably be there pacing a friend during it.
