I was really looking forward to this weekend’s Chicago ZOOMA Women’s Half Marathon. I was an ambassador for the race, so I was excited for the activities surrounding the race. And then I got sick. WAHHHHH!
I knew Thursday night something was up, but I’m a hypochondriac, so I wasn’t really sure if I was actually getting sick or just psyching myself out. I haven’t been sick for over a year (probably a new record for me), so I powered through work on Friday (sorry, coworkers) and walked up to the expo with Molly after work. At this point I was feeling really shitty and had a box of tissues in my tote bag (#yepstillsingle).
Despite feeling crappy, I really liked the expo. It was small, but I prefer small expos – less overwhelming. Plus, Universal Sole had a booth so I was able to restock on my fav gels (Citrus Clif shots). And yeah, I was still thinking I’d wake up and run the race in the morning. Ha. Wishful thinking. I grabbed my stuff and headed home to my couch and cat (aka Matthew Cat, RN).
And for the record: the swag wasn’t bad. I never wear race shirts (my long torso + “women’s” sized tech shirts = belly shirt), but a water bottle and new yoga mat are pretty legit.
Well when I got home I had a fever. Sad face. For a hot second I told myself all I needed was rest and advil and then I could run in the morning. Fool! Around 10pm a resigned to the thought of racing (or even leaving the house on Saturday).
I was (and still am ) pretty bummed that I did not get to run. The race started up at Montrose Harbor, which is my usual long run starting point and also one of my fav places in Chicago. The beach and views are awesome.
The post race expo promised wine (!!), food and yoga. Again – so bummed I was missing out! My running partner in crime, Molly, ran the race and her recap was as follows… pros: plenty of water stops, bathrooms. Cons: no gato (cytomax which “tastes like pee”) and course was not closed off (it was on the lake path). From what I gathered from twitter, facebook and instagram, the race looked nice. AND THE WEATHER PERFECT! Did any one reading this (hi, mom!) run the race? How was it?!
Meanwhile, while all of you were running and being healthy, I was in my apt and on the couch binge watching Grey’s Anatomy, chugging water and smoothies, taking pics of the kitten and willing my meds to work.
But good news! This morning I woke up and my fever was gone! YAY! I haven’t had a feev in so long – I forgot how achey it makes me. Woof city. I still have a sick ass cough (I think I have the weakest lungs ever), but I’m hoping one more day of rest will cure me before I have to return to work tomorrow. Maybe, just maybe, I will leave the house later and take a short walk. Get some air in these lungs… shake things out (that’s an official medical term, btw )
Plus… NYCM training week 7 starts tomorrow… gotta get these lungs back in fighting shape!
